Type as Metaphor

Type as Metaphor takes one word, hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia, the fear of long words, and answers it four ways with type alone.

The first piece conveys hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia as a Godzilla-like monster. The second uses adjectives describing the feeling of the word, rising from within the pages of a book — the fear that the book contains a long word, so it’s never opened. The third brings the idea down to just letters: a person up on a stage having difficulty saying a long word. The final piece is formatted differently, in a typical essay format for comedic effect — I took the definition of the word and removed all the spacing, so it looks like one continuous word filling a page.
